LATEST IMAGES - ETHIOPIA16 On the Bale Mountain plateau we saw good numbers of Hares although they usually saw us before we saw them. Eventually we found a couple that didn't bolt as we approached. The most unusual animal we saw was the Giant Mole-rat, a lot like a large Hamster that lives in burrows and only pops its head out to graze on the immediate vegetation. It is no wonder it is cautious as it is the preferred food of the Ethiopian Wolf. The smaller Blick's Grass Rats were also common and their squeaking sounds filled the air up on the plateau. .
