The colours around the edge are produced by bacteria living in the water.
MORNING GLORY
This was famous for its deep blue colour caused I believe by refraction of the suns' rays in the deep pool. However over the years people have thrown objects into the pool which has partially blocked its the hot water supply from under ground. This has caused the water temperature in the pool to drop allowing the bacteria to grow and reducing the blueness of the pool. We humans seem to be able to ruin anything and everything.
