Along the Lamar Valley in the north of Yellowstone National Park we found many people looking out for Wolves. They seemed to be able to follow them quite easily and I'm not sure if they were even tuning in to the Wolves tracking devices. When we stopped to talk to one group they showed us two black Wolves through one telescope and three grey Wolves through another. Just seeing Wolves was a bonus but getting a picture was a real thrill. This Wolf was heading towards the road but turned back when three vehicles stopped at the place where it looked like it was going to cross. Unfortunately the Wolf had already turned around before I took the shot but it is my best wild Wolf image and so much more satisfying than captive Wolf shots. WOLF COYOTE IN SNOW AT THE ELK REFUGE I was surprised at the lack of Coyote sightings compared with my visit in the Autumn. We may have been unlucky although I believe the Wolves have had an impact on Coyote numbers. BIG HORN SHEEP In the Autumn I didn't get anywhere near one of these Sheep but this time they came right down to us by the road where the snow had melted and exposed some very tough looking grass. By the way I wonder where they got their name from? ANIMAL TRACKS IN THE SNOW |
