Experiencing Black Grouse on a lek must be one of the best experiences in the world for a wildlife photographer. The first you know the Grouse are there is the whoosh of the wings and then their distinctive and evocative babbling, all this before it is light enough to see them. As the light improves, and we had two good mornings not too dull but not full sun, you can start taking portrait shots even though the ISO is turned up and shutter speed is low.
