The Ardnamurchan peninsula has long been on our list of prospective photographic destinations and this June we finally made it to this remote part of western Scotland. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best and the midges were out in force but the peninsula lived up to our expectations both for its remoteness and for its wildlife. Chequered Skippers are only now found in the UK around Fort William and on the eastern edge of the Ardnamurchan peninsula and we were fortunate to find a few basking in some of the little sun we had during our stay in the area. We were also pleased to find a good population of Small Pearl bordered fritillaries in the same wood, the only downside was the attack from the numerous midges.
