Mountain hare is a species we haven't managed to capture many decent images of before so during our recent March visit to Scotland we were very pleased to obtain some images of this lovely mammal. They did look a bit silly running around on the brown heather still in their winter coats, not the best camouflage adaptation. Our technique was to find a sheltered spot and wait for the hares to come close enough, much less tiring than trying to stalk them! The last image shows a mountain hare just beginning to moult into its summer coat.
